Thing Three

For me, RSS is not really a useful tool for how I like to (or have to) use the Internet. My attention span is short enough that I don't spend lots of time on one topic - I get what I need and leave.

Having said that - it is definitely useful - especially those interested in new title alerts, monitoring a news event, looking for a job, waiting for new programming, or keeping up with a blog your really into. I do use RSS - but on an as needed basis.
I think in any web site design libraries have to consider promoting RSS as an option for keeping up on current library events and resources.

Thing Two

It seems that there is way too much time spent trying to define Library 2.0 and I disagree it is a new concept – customer interaction is what libraries are about! The tools keep changing, and customers can now choose to immerse themselves into the physical and virtual world of libraries to the nth degree with all the outstanding Web 2.0 technology available – but it still comes down to providing resources and comfortable/inviting environments.

I think three challenges for libraries are…
1 - Accepting expertise from all walks of life - educators, IT staff, administrators, business leaders, and librarians.
2 - Putting some trust in non-authoritative sources.
3 – Maintaining sustainable content.

As for the questions....
We know time is always an issue--Stephen Abram shares some ideas on where to find the time for 23 Things. Where will you find the time?
Send my kids to camp - hire a painter - quit my job

Why are you participating in 23 Things On a Stick? What do you hope to learn?
Our organization is promoting it and I hope to understand the hype

How has the Internet and the vast resource it can be affected your use of time at work and/or at home?
Get the info I need fast - saves gas with online shopping - keeps me in touch with our kids coaches...

Where are you in your knowledge and use of Web 2.0 tools? How about your library?
Have the basics down and our library is just beginning to work on its web site and discovery tools

What are you looking forward to in 23 Things On a Stick?
Always something to learn and hoping one of these sticks involves food...
